In celebration of the World Water Day on March 22, SK chemicals decided to incorporate diverse programs of water resources protection into its CSR campaign. On March 25, it also organized a special event where company employees and board members participated to protect the local water resources.
SK chemicals has developed water resources protection programs for domestic and international clients. Overseas, the company will continue to expand the SK Happiness Wells project that launched last year.
The project involves digging wells in various regions of Africa without access to potable water. SK chemicals intends to install 10 more wells, such the one in the region of Tana Delta in Kenya, this year. Over 10,000 locals will enjoy ready access to clean potable water once the 10 additional wells are completed.
A spokesperson for Team and Team, a nongovernment organization that specializes in water resources development with which SK chemicals works, revealed, “The three wells that SK chemicals dug last year has significantly improved the quality of life for over 4,000 locals by giving them reliable supplies of water.”
On the home front, SK chemicals organizes A.cure, a project that involves employees and board members’ participation in cleaning up and protecting local rivers and water resources.
A.cure is a name that combines “aqua” with “cure.” It expresses SK chemicals’ determination to preserve water resources and restore health and vitality to the natural ecosystems.
The 30 or so employees and board members of the Ulsan plant took part in an A.cure event on March 25, picking up garbage along the banks of the Yeocheon River nearby the plant site.
CEO Lee Mun-seok explained, “SK chemicals is dedicated to eco-friendly management. It will develop and establish a green process that involves diverse activities of publicizing the importance of water and efforts to eliminate all emissions of pollutants from its production facilities into nearby sources of water.”
Officiating its commitment to eco-friendly management, SK chemicals announced Vision 3G (Green Product, Green Process, Green Culture), which actively encourages employees and board members to ensure greater eco-friendliness in all aspects of the company’s actions, including production, processing, products, and corporate culture.
