● Special Event for Family Month: Looking for a New Family
- SK chemicals organized a special event in which employees looked for strangers
looking like them.
- “Family-member” bands were invited and special newsletters were issued to
celebrate the event.
SK chemicals drew attention with a special event it has held. In celebration of the arrival of May that is commonly called the Family Month in Korea, employees were asked to look for people who are not their biological relatives, but who look similar to them.
The event was part of the diverse programs and activities that SK chemicals (CEO Lee Moon-suk) sought to organize in May to promote communication and solidarity among employees.
The event was also intended to remind people of the meaning and importance of “family” by bringing them into a closer contact with their colleagues with whom they spend more time throughout any given day than with their own families.
The day reached a climax when 10 pairs of employees and board members, who closely resembled each other, were brought out on to the stage and all the members of the audience were asked to vote for the pair that shared the greatest resemblance.
SK chemicals’ Web magazine, Sky Voice, issued a special Family Month edition, containing diverse feature articles on the typical days of couples in the company, the people employees met on Teachers’ Day, and the gifts employees gave to their parents to help them feel younger.
On May 23, the company will host a music concert at the G.rium Hall in EcoLab entitled, “For My Second Family at Work: My Coworkers.”
The concert will begin with the performance of the company band, Skalas, and will proceed to sketch comedy segments and instrumental music by employees and their family members.
Kim Jul-su of the Management Team at the Cheongju plant commented, “I have always thought of May as a month for families and giving gifts to parents and children. So I was pleasantly surprised by the different approach SK chemicals took and the efforts it made to make us think of our coworkers as our family members. Taking part in the diverse events the company organized, I came to think of the concept of ‘family’ in a different way.”
