● SK chemicals Organizes a Bicycle Tour with the Youth of Ulsan
- Members of SK chemicals at Ulsan organized the Hope Bicycle Tour
with local children and teens.
- Participants shared time and fun riding bicycles and hot-air balloons. The two-dozen members of a volunteers’ club at the SK chemicals plant at Ulsan (headed by Lee Eung-yun), in partnership with the Ulsan Nam-gu General Social Service Center, took two-dozen children and teens from Ulsan on a bicycle tour around the Bomun District in Gyeongju on May 11.
The tour was organized as part of SK chemicals’ CSR campaign, Hope Maker. The Hope Maker campaign involves SK chemicals’ employees donating certain portions of their monthly wages, which the company matches with an equal amount of fund so that the money can be spent on supporting and mentoring youth.
The tour began with children, teens, and their mentors from SK chemicals, riding bicycles in pairs around the Bomun District in Gyeongju and performing certain missions along the way.
In the afternoon, the participants rode hot-air balloons and watched FLYING, a magic performance show, on the stage of the Gyeongju World Culture Expo.
The day began at 9:00 a.m. and ended at 6:00 p.m. Volunteers from SK chemicals later relayed how glad they were to get to know and become friends with the children and teens they support and mentor.
Lee Jun-no, one of the volunteers from Ulsan, commented, “I was happy to spend an entire day with my mentee getting to know him better. I will do everything I can to help him become a successful and responsible adult.”
SK chemicals intends to organize a variety of similar events in the future so that volunteers can participate in a greater range of meaningful and genuine social services. A spokesperson for the company explained, “The success of a long-term CSR campaign like our Hope Maker depends on how genuine and involved the volunteers are. We plan to create more opportunities to bring volunteers and the children they support together so that they share not only money and resources, but genuine attention and friendship.”
In addition to making donations, SK chemicals’ plant at Ulsan continues to organize diverse events for the children employees support, including birthday parties, exchanging letters, summer camps, farm activities, New Year’s Eve parties, and the like.
