SK chemicals and ELQUE (located in Calcutta, India) concluded a contract to dispatch supervisors for technology consultation on June 11, 2001. It is conditionally agreed that a Supervisor Fee of 17,400 dollars will be paid for a review of the current operational situation of the process, facilities and quality, and for the suggestion of ideas to increase the production. Also included will be the suggestion of facility management methods (such as securing spare parts), as facilitated by the dispatching of three staff members for six days. All other expenses will be paid by ELQUE. This has become a chance for SK to be recognized for its high technological power, as the agreement was concluded under the conditions that our company practice technological consultation, on the basis of our accumulated technology in the field of PET manufacturing technology. For this service, we will be paid a technological fee. ELQUE is the firm to which our company exported CP 60 T/D PLANT technology in 1996. After their active and positive recognition of our SK MAN approach, and successful achievement of our PLANT in performing their PROJECT, it has become possible - due to the trust in continuous CRM between our two companies - to provide useful information and supply spare parts for stable operation. This contract is a small example of technology export that utilizes an intangible asset of the continuous polymerization process. The characteristic of technology export is that it can secure not only the high profitability of the project itself, due to the transfer of intellectual properties, but also that it engenders loyalty. It is this loyalty that makes possible additional technology export orders, if continuous CRM is performed and maintained. Actually, the technology export to ELQUE in ’96 yielded 14 million dollars (10.8 billion won at that time) of sales and 3.3 million dollars (2.6 billion won) in net profit. In this way, even though the size of this contract for technology export is not big, it can be regarded as a kind of letter of credit for the reservation of an even bigger technology export. If the supply of spare parts that is in progress now enjoys a continuous relationship in the future, and if the PROJECT for an increased production of PET as planned by ELQUE gets underway, such results can be seen as promoted and achieved on the basis of this contract.
