Effective components
Sevelamer Carbonate 800 mg

Active ingredient(s) and Contents

  • Effective components

    • Sevelamer Carbonate 800 mg
  • Other

    • Lactose Hydrate, Talc, Macrogol-Poly (vinyl alcohol) graft-copolymer, Colloidal Silicon Dioxide, Zinc Stearate

Dosage and administration

  • This drug should be taken 3 times daily with food.

    • 1) Patients not taking phosphate binders
The recommended starting dose of this drug is 0.8 g or 1.6 g, and orally administer 1 to 2 tablets with food according to following serum phosphorus level. Below figure 1 shows the starting dose of this drug recommended in patients not taking phosphate binders.

Figure 1. Initial dosage for dialysis patients who don’t take phosphate binder.
    Serum phosphorusDosage
    5.5 - 7.5 ㎎/dL 1 tablet, 3 times a day taken with meals
    ≥7.5 ㎎/dL 2 tablets, 3 times a day taken with meals

    • 2) In the case of alternative administration of this drug in patients taking sevelamer hydrochloride tablets
If this drug is used as an alternative in patients taking sevelamer hydrochloride tablets, the same dose is administered. Dose adjustment may be necessary to reach the target serum phosphorus level. The maximum daily dose of sevelamer carbonate studied in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing dialysis was 14 g.

    • 3) In the case of alternative administration of sevelamer carbonate from tablet to powder or from powder to tablet
The same dose is administered when alternate administration between sevelamer carbonate tablets and powders. Dose adjustment may be necessary to reach the target serum phosphorus level.

    • 4) In the case of alternative administration of this drug in a patient taking calcium acetate preparations
In a study of 84 patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis, sevelamer hydrochloride and calcium acetate preparations showed similar reductions in serum phosphorus at the same dose (approximately mg per mg). Figure 2 shows the recommended initial dose of this drug based on the current calcium acetate dose.

    • 5) Dose adjustments in all patients taking this drug
Dose increase or decrease can be made by 0.8 g of this drug 3 times daily with meals, if necessary, at the intervals of two weeks, until reaching the target serum phosphorus level.
