SK Chemical - Andong-si
SK Chemical (CEO and Vice-chairman Kim Chang Geun) set up the MOU with Andong-si as being appointed as ‘Customized vaccine raw material production supporting project’ sponsored by Gyeongbuk Institute for Bio Industry on the 24th.
SK Chemical Andong Vaccine Plant will establish Preventive vaccine production complex (provisionally named SK Chemical Andong Vaccine Plant) with 140million dose size annually sponsored by Gyeongbuk Institute for Bio Industry, government and local government.
[Customized vaccine raw material production supporting project] is a government sponsored project that the private business provider carries out to develop and produce national compulsory preventive vaccines to improve national public health and to secure vaccine independency.
A spokesperson of SK Chemical Life Science Biz said that “by establishing cell culture vaccination technology and production plant we shall have import replacement effect and overseas progress foundation as well as national public health and vaccine independence.
The first ‘cell culture influenza vaccine production facility’ in Korea established in the SK Chemical Andong vaccine plant can promptly react when ▲unexpected epidemics spread. It also can be utilized as an emergency production facility when there is new influenza or saas. ▲ It is freed from external pollution such as swine flu as it does not need fertile egg, the essential for the existing vaccine production.
A spokesperson of Gyeongbuk Institute for Bio Industry said that “they selected SK Chemical as the final winner considering the best production and marketing capacity, vaccine obtaining capacity through independent original technology and local community contribution.”
Since its merger of Dongshin Pharmaceutical in 2001, it will be an opportunity to be recognized its R&D capacity and it will enhance its vaccine independence and global advancement.
