In particular, both medications including Mvix working on impotence via PDE5 blocking, and alpha-blocker working on prostatic hypertrophy, can affect the cardiovascular system. Therefore, it is meaningful that our clinical study resolved suspicion of the potential adverse effects by the combination of these two drugs.
The leader of this study, professor Lee Seung-wook at Hanyang University Guri Hospital, made a comment on the result, “A healthy sex life is important even for those suffering from prostatic hypertrophy. The safety results from our study will help patients suffering from both problems by allowing them a better quality of life.
The study was conducted for 1year between December 2009 and December 2010 in five tertiary hospitals nationwide including Hanyang University Guri Hospital.
SK chemicals will continue contributing to the clinical value of Mvix through additional research on drug interactions and clinical evaluation in specific populations based on previous clinical results, resulting in enhancing the company’s professional distinction in the domestic market of erectile dysfunction medication.
We will also devote our entire efforts to solidifying our competitiveness in the global market through new product development and a diversified marketing strategy. <The end>
Terminology
*Alpha-blockers
Alpha-blockers are used to reduce prostate pressure and improve bladder outlet obstruction by blocking alpha-adrenergic receptors located in smooth muscle of the prostate. Most representative alpha-1 blockers include doxazosin(Brand: Cardura) and terazosin(Brand: Hytrin). Tamsulosin (Brand: Harnal) works on both type 1A and 1D alpha-receptors
*IIEF-5 Score(International Index Erectile Function score)
The IIEF-5 Score is the sum of responses to the 4 items from the erectile function domain and 1 item from the satisfaction domain (total 5 questionnaires, score range 5-25), and is widely used in office-based practices as a screening test to assess erectile function and satisfaction in sexual intercourse.
*IPSS(International Prostate Symptom Score)
The IPSS is the most widely used prostate symptom questionnaire test, which is critical for diagnosing prostatic hypertrophy by objectifying the status of patients’ symptoms. The test result can help to make therapeutic decisions based on the severity of symptoms and it can be also useful to monitor responses to medication or surgical treatment. The lower the score is, the more the symptom has improved.
*International Journal of Impotence Research
This scientific journal registered in SCI aims to deliver professional information specifically on male and female sexual dysfunctions in parallel with the Journal of Sexual Medicine, with particular focus on sexual dysfunction associated with cardiac diseases or diabetes.
