SK chemicals is jump-starting regional economic recovery and social contribution efforts by donating Onnuri gift certificates to those in need.
SK chemicals (Cheol Kim, President) announced on the 3rd of this month that the company will donate ₩50M in Onnuri traditional-market gift certificates to five social welfare organizations throughout Korea including Hansol Welfare Center.
Onnuri gift certificates are vouchers that can only be used in Korea`s traditional markets and will be delivered to community centers to be used to purchase goods for local children.
To maximize the practical benefits to sponsored children using the donation of gift certificates, SK chemicals received participation from fourteen national welfare organizations through its Hope Maker program to evaluate and determine the type of support and scale.
As a result of the participation, a fusion art class for disabled and non-disabled youth (Gwnagju Usan Social Welfare Center), cooking class for poverty prevention (Osan Social Welfare Center, Nam-gu Ulsan Social Welfare Center), mentoring program (Cheongju Social Welfare Center), culture and arts class (Bundang Hansol Social Welfare Center), and other programs were selected.
An SK chemicals official stated, "We hope to improve the quality of the lives of sponsored children and assist in self-development through the various programs that have been selected." He added, "The goods that are needed for the programs will be purchased with Onnuri gift certificates, and so we expect a boost in the economic recovery of local small businesses."
In addition to the current program, SK chemicals is actively engaging in social contribution and economic stimulation through scholarship support for existing sponsored children in the Hope Maker program and by utilizing Onnuri gift certificates as special gifts during national holidays.
The Hope Maker program, SK chemicals` primary social contribution effort, is a sponsorship program that fully matches donations made by employees from a portion of their salaries and engages in mentoring activities beyond simple donations through regular meetings with sponsored children.
