SK Chemical`s book club held over 10,000 discussions.
SK Chemical announced that 180 departments had 10,080 discussions over the past five years and five months.
It is unusual for an in-house book club to meet more than 10,000 times for discussion. SK Chemical has promoted better communication among members and built a culture of creative discussion through continuous book discussions.
Organized in 2011, the book club is a group of SK Chemical employees who meet to share their interest and opinions about books chosen by departments once a month.
It also receives full support from the company. Through a corporate library named Jigwan, SK Chemical allows all employees to borrow the books they want. Located on the first floor of the SK Chemical Complex,
has 14,000 books, a large collection for a corporate library.
I"All employees are allowed to check out three books for two weeks at a time. And more and more employees tend to borrow and read books because there is no limit to how many times one employee can borrow a book," said librarian Kim Minseung in charge of managing .
From the beginning to the 15th of this month, 6,448 books have been borrowed for an average of 3.7 books per person.
"Reading has boosted internal communication, thanks to the full support at the company level and active participation from all employees. We`ll continue to provide support to help them come up with creative, practical development ideas through reading," said manager Bae Hyuk of SK Chemical’s Corporate Culture Department.
SK Chemical is well known for providing good cultural programs. From 2010, the company has hosted 138 lectures led by special guests, including △ Buddhist Monk Hyemin, △ Sister Lee Hyein and △ former director of Cultural Heritage Administration, Yoo Hongjun, and 78 concerts led by famous musicians like △ cellist Yang Seongwon and △ violinist Jeong Gyeongwha.
