SK Chemical’s resin production headquarters has a new office building within its Ulsan factory complex after a 43-year stay at the original sites.
The Ulsan Factory managed by Hwang Chun-hyeon announced the completion of construction and held an opening ceremony for the new building on September 21.
Thanks to this new construction, SK Chemical expects the consolidation of the resin production, technology, quality management and facility management teams, which had been dispersed across the factory, to make collaboration more efficient and create a synergy effect in operation and management.
The new layout will make great contributions in improving the company’s production of key products like PETG/ECOZEN and facilitate the rapid development of exciting new products.
SK Chemical’s Resin Production Headquarters developed the PET resin (polyethylene terephthalate) in 1978 for the first time in Korea and guided the resin business to become a key growth engine of the company.
Advanced materials are being developed here like eco-friendly, high value-added PETG, which was commercialized by SK Chemical for only the second time in the world.
The newly constructed three-story office building has a floor area of 655㎡and a building area of 1,964㎡.
Its first floor houses a process control room and laboratory. The second floor hosts the resin production team and technology team, while the third floor has a quality management team and facilities management team, and a spare room for factory extension and additional personnel.
In his opening ceremony remarks, Ulsan Factory’s manager Hwang Chun-hyeon said that, “We expect a synergy effect from consolidating the previous seven sites in the resin production headquarters to one central location,” adding that, “We hope to make great strides in our never ending quest to improve the quality of PETG/ECOZEN and perform R&D on innovative materials that will offer consumers a host of exciting new products.”
PETG•ECOZEN is an eco-friendly plastic material that does not produce the endocrine disruptor Bisphenol A. It is as transparent as glass and has exceptional mechanical properties that make it ideal for applications in the industrial part market including household appliances and automobile interior materials. PETG•ECOZEN is rapidly replacing PVC and PC as the material of choice for today’s consumer.
