● SK chemicals, SK Gas 2017 Hold Year-End `Hope Maker` Event
- 120 Hope Maker students and their families invited for celebration
- SK employees deliver 450 warm-up kits to local community members
SK chemicals and SK Gas have been busy sharing love and warmth with local community members for the end of the year.
SK chemicals (Cheol Kim, President) and SK Gas (Jae-hun Lee, President) recently announced that the two companies held their year-end 2017 Happiness Up, Hope Go event for Hope Maker children and their families on the 12th of this month.
More than 200 people were in attendance for the sixth annual Hope Maker event, including sponsored children and their families from the Seongnam region; employees of SK chemicals and SK Gas; and officials from local community welfare centers.
SK chemicals prepared Christmas gifts as well as a special performance by an LED dance troupe for children sponsored in their Hope Maker program. What`s more, 450 sets of warm-up kits, prepared by none other than SK employees themselves, were distributed to more than 220 homes and senior citizens in the community.
10 warm-up kits included practical items such as electric blankets, socks, and weather stripping, as well as Christmas cards written by SK employees.
In a show of gratitude to the SK employees, children of the Hope Maker program put on a show of samulnori (traditional percussion quartet), violin, and hip-hop/rap performances that they had been preparing for six months.
On this day, a special video montage featuring scenes from the previous six Hope Maker events were shown, which included past graduates of the program.
"My interest in biotechnology was sparked after a field trip to SK chemicals, and now I major in a related field," said a Hope Maker graduate who entered university earlier this year. "I`m thankful for the Hope Maker program and everyone at SK chemicals for enabling me to have a wider view of the world."
Kwang-hyeon Jeon of SK chemicals` Pharma division stated, "We`ve been holding this annual year-end event in hopes that we can add a bit of warmth in the lives of the Hope Maker children and their families." He added, "We will continue to carry out various social contribution activities, build strong relationships, and share happiness in the community."
As a social contribution program organized by SK chemicals and SK Gas, Hope Maker has sponsored more than 260 local children and youth since 2012. Members of the program are supported by a company department or team on a one-to-one basis until they reach maturity. SK chemicals operates seasonal support programs for Hope Maker students. The career counseling-focused Hope Maker Campus Tour is held in spring, and Rural Grandma Visit, a rural experience camp for the emotional development of urban children, is held in summer. In autumn and winter, volunteer activities in rural areas and ski camps are held, respectively.
Also, to welcome the season of giving, the Geonam Women`s Association, with which SK has a sister relationship, was recently invited to the SK chemicals Ulsan plant on the 7th for the Love and Happiness Kimchi-Sharing event. The kimchi produced on this day using 1,000 heads of cabbage were donated to families of the Namgu Welfare Center Hope Maker program sponsored by SK chemicals, as well as those sponsored by Ulsan Gwangmyeongwon, Sanggae Disabled Workers Protective Services, and Asamo, the SK Ulsan plant volunteer club.
