● SK chemicals Holds Conference for 'Hope Maker' High-School Graduates
- Providing a platform where youths can share concerns and receive encouragement
- Plans to foster local community youths through various sponsorship activities
SK chemicals recently organized a conference for sponsored high-school graduates in their Hope Maker social responsibility program.
SK chemicals announced that 14 high-school graduates from their Hope Maker program were invited to the company's head office for a conference with employees on the 23rd of this month.
At the conference, SK chemicals employees and executives shared their thoughts and opinions regarding the future roadmaps of the sponsored students. They also reminisced about their involvement in the Hope Maker program and listened to various suggestions for improving future activities.
"I am grateful to SK chemicals for providing me not with one-time support but a series of diverse experiences such as career counseling through Hope Relay as well as Campus Hope Tour and mentoring activities associated with Sunny, SK's university student volunteer group," said a sponsored student who has recently enrolled at an unnamed university for electronic engineering. "Now, as a member of society, I want to help my juniors in the same manner through a variety of volunteer activities."
Kwang-seok Lee, Communication Manager of SK chemicals, stated, "We are proud of and thankful for the young people who have grown together with SK chemicals." He added, "I hope you will challenge yourselves in many ventures and set the proper courses for your lives well into the future."
The Hope Maker program is SK chemicals' principal social responsibility activity founded in 2012. As a program for guiding underprivileged youths until high-school graduation, it has sponsored a total of 183 children from local low-income families near SK chemicals business sites throughout Korea.
In addition to providing monthly economic support to the sponsored child of each team using committed donations of members, SK chemicals also provides emergency medical expense support through a fund-matching program to those who need urgent medical care.
SK chemicals' other social responsibility programs include Hope Relay, an emotional support program with sponsored children, and Campus Hope Tour, an education-focused program that kick-starts each spring in line with the start of a new school year. In the summer, the Grandma Visitation program is held to assist in the emotional development of urban youths by exposing them to rural culture, and in the fall, rural volunteer activities are conducted to help farmers. Finally, a year-end event is held in the winter with the families of youths in the aforementioned Hope Maker program.
SK chemicals plans to create social values for engendering growth and development in the company as well as society by continually providing human and material support for children and youths in the community.
