● SK chemicals to Apply Eco-friendly PETG to Stainless Airtight Container
- Planning to expand application of the FDA-approved material to food storage containers
SK chemicals is entering the stainless airtight container market with PETG, an eco-friendly copolyester.
SK chemicals (CEO: Kim Cheol) announced on June 7th that it has successfully commercialized the airtight container made of SKYGREEN (PETG, Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol), an eco-friendly copolyester, in collaboration with a food storage container manufacturer, Korea Lock.
SK chemicals has developed SKYGREEN, the copolyester which has been developed for the second time in the world. The copolyester is widely used among domestic/overseas kitchenware and baby product manufacturers because it does not contain BPA (bisphenol A), an environmental endocrine disruptor.
Airtight containers, which come into direct contact with foods, are classified as a plastic product with the most rigorous eco-friendliness and human safety standards. SK chemicals’ SKYGREEN is an FDA-approved material that is used for sports water bottles and medical packaging provided by domestic and overseas manufacturers.
After one year of R&D in collaboration with Korea Lock, the leading airtight container manufacturer in South Korea, SK chemicals has successfully applied SKYGREEN to products of “The Sten” which is the company’s premium airtight container brand.
Since Korea Lock with the record of the highest sales in the TV home shopping industry for the stainless airtight container is expanding the premium airtight container market with efforts including supplying stainless food storage containers for high-end refrigerators, the demand for SKYGREEN is expected to increase further in the future.
“SK chemicals’ SKYGREEN is an outstanding material for storing food for a long time as it significantly reduces food permeation, which has been a chronic problem of plastic containers,” says the CEO of Korea Lock, Kim Seong-su. “Since the material is highly transparent, it is easier for customers to see the content inside the container.”
“Entering the market with products that meet rigorous quality standards is very meaningful,” says the manager of the domestic sales team at SK chemicals, Kim Hak-seong. “We will take this achievement as an opportunity to promote the excellence of SKYGREEN.”
In addition to the market of food storage containers, SK chemicals is actively expanding its marketing to various markets including ones of shrink film and luxury cosmetic containers.
