After joining together, the Samyang Co. and SK chemicals’ synthetic fiber division, who had both been suffering business losses, are now in for a smooth ride.Joint Corporation Huvis (www.huvis.com), established in November of last year, announced that it has achieved 470 billion won in sales and 15 billion won in ordinary profit for the first half of this year. This is an eye-opening result when compared to the 4~6 billion won monthly losses of both companies before the integration.CEO Jo Min-ho of Huvis explained that, “Such an outcome has been possible because labor-management reconciliation and transparent management has wiped away employee anxieties early in the process.”It can be seen from the case of Yeocheon NCC (a joint corporation of Hanhwa and Daelim Industries), which had also gone through serious internal conflict between labor and management, that the biggest problem arising from the integration of two different organizations is union-management disputes.CEO Jo explained that, “Settling the unrest of employees facing integration and establishing mutual trust was the most urgent priority.”The first thing CEO Jo undertook after his appointment was to encourage employees.During a Jeonju Factory meeting, held in the presence of some 500 employees, CEO Jo gave details to the background of joint integration and explained various management issues. He’s still holding sessions with employees once a month, circulating through each of the business divisions.Using the intra-company communication network, Huvis is concentrating its efforts to raise mutual trust through transparent management, by sharing all kinds of business information with its employees.Huvis also introduced the piecework system early in its establishment, and is paying piecework compensation in accordance with fair and objective evaluation criteria.Huvis has so far paid a total of 300 million won in piecework compensation to relevant departments and employees in April.Huvis disclosed, “Our goal is to become a leading polyester company, with business worth three trillion won by the year 2005.”Huvis aims to achieve one trillion won in sales and expects 49 billion won in ordinary profit.Hwang, In-HyeokMaeil Business Newspaper 8.4.2001.
