- Provides educational programs for elderly at risk of mild cognitive impairment and their families
- Implements cognitive ability tests and training using the dementia prevention program "Sound Mind"
A leading Korean corporation takes the initiative in raising awareness about dementia prevention and management, a growing societal issue.
SK chemicals (CEO & President Ahn Jae-hyun) announced the successful launch of its "Mobile Dementia Prevention Class" program on the 21st at the Gangnam Senior Welfare Center in Seoul.
The comprehensive event, featuring dementia prevention education and cognitive function tests, drew approximately 100 elderly participants from the local community. This follows SK chemicals' successful October event, which invited 116 elderly individuals in Gwangju Metropolitan City.
As dementia is known to be particularly challenging to treat once the onset begins, healthcare experts emphasize the critical importance of early detection, prevention, and ongoing management. SK chemicals organized this educational initiative to spread essential knowledge on cognitive self-assessment and lifestyle practices for dementia prevention among elderly populations at high risk of the disease.
The class featured a lecture by Dr. Jung Kyung-il, Director of Seoul Metropolitan Gangdong Silver Care Center, who shared practical tips on dementia prevention and management. The session provided attendees with useful information on easily implementable daily habits for preventing dementia, as well as guidance on available resources for individuals suspected of having the condition.
Participants also had the opportunity to experience "Sound Mind," an innovative AI-powered cognitive improvement program. Sound Mind offers cognitive function tests and brain-training exercises through interactive, game-like activities designed to stimulate cognitive abilities.
As South Korea faces increasing challenges from its rapidly aging population, SK chemicals is committed to continued efforts in addressing the growing social impact of dementia.
Kim Kee-dong, Head of the Management Support Division at SK chemicals, remarked, "With an estimated 1.05 million dementia patients aged 65 and above this year, dementia is not only a significant health concern but also presents serious social and economic challenges for both patients and their families. We are committed to raising awareness of dementia risks and effective management strategies, while also developing and implementing comprehensive solutions, including innovative products, services, and community programs that can aid in dementia prevention and care."
