On the 8th, SK chemicals President Ahn Jae-hyun unveiled the company's 2025 management strategy, stating, "We will leverage our innovative DNA, which successfully transformed our fiber-centric business structure into one focused on high-value-added materials, to overcome the current challenges and dedicate ourselves to propelling future business growth."
President Ahn remarked, "Despite the unprecedentedly challenging business environment for Korea's chemical industry in 2024, we achieved meaningful growth by leveraging our unique operational improvement (OI) capabilities and a specialty chemicals-focused business portfolio." He added, "We must overcome unforeseen risks brought about by unprecedented uncertainties through the power of One Team Spirit."
In response, SK chemicals outlined its strategy to navigate the challenges facing the petrochemical industry by focusing on high-value-added specialty businesses with high entry barriers. This includes expanding the portfolio of specialty materials like copolyesters, enhancing cost competitiveness, growing the global market for circular recycling materials, and discovering new applications through customer collaboration.
In pursuit of this strategy, SK chemicals plans to diversify its specialty lineup by driving product and technology innovation in high-value-added materials such as copolyesters while further strengthening its market position. The functional materials and circular recycling materials businesses will focus on expanding their customer base and enhancing cost competitiveness to drive growth.
To this end, SK chemicals reorganized its organizational structure around its two core business divisions to strengthen specialized capabilities in its flagship specialty business, Green Materials, and its next-generation growth engine, the Recycling business.
SK chemicals established Marketing and Business Development (M&BD) and Operations Departments under the Green Materials Business Division and Recycling Business Division to specialize in marketing and business development capabilities. Additionally, a large-team system was introduced to enable flexible, project-centered collaboration and operations.
The scope of the Application Development Department, which previously focused on developing applications for copolyester products, has been expanded to include the Recycling business.
President Ahn Jae-hyun stated, "Through continuous portfolio restructuring, SK chemicals has proactively established a business structure centered on specialty materials like copolyesters. Leveraging our unique technological strengths, we will further raise the bar in the current specialty fields and rapidly expand into new specialty areas like circular recycling."
Meanwhile, SK chemicals maintained solid performance last year despite the downturn in the chemical industry. SK chemicals achieved standalone cumulative sales of KRW 934 billion for the third quarter of last year, marking a 9.2% increase year-over-year. Operating profit rose 15% year-over-year to reach KRW 79.4 billion.
