- Sharing Expertise on Implementing Korea’s First AI-Based Safety Assessment System
- Planning to Learn from Industry Cases and Expand Internal Application through Collaboration with RIST
SK chemicals elevates on-site safety management through Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based smart safety technology exchange.
SK chemicals (CEO & President: Ahn Jae-hyun) announced on the 20th that it signed an MOU with the Research Institute of Industrial Science and Technology (RIST) on the 19th at the G-House Vision Hall of its Ulsan plant in Nam-gu, Ulsan, to collaborate on research and technology in the field of smart safety.
Yoo Ho-seop, head of production infrastructure at SK chemicals, and Yoo Byung-ok, president of RIST, attended the MOU signing ceremony.
RIST, an industrial applied technology research institute established by POSCO, conducts research across various fields, including steel, new materials, environment, energy, smart safety, and analytical assessment, and applies its findings to practical on-site implementation.
Through this MOU, the two companies will explore ways to elevate on-site safety management efficiency together while exchanging smart safety-related technologies and reviewing various case studies.
SK chemicals will share its expertise in applying the generative AI-based safety management system, which was first established for in Korea last year by SK chemicals, with RIST. In return, RIST will provide SK chemicals with technologies in the industrial safety sector, including △ RISTwin, a digital twin-based smart safety platform, and △ monitoring and system development solutions for worker exposure risk.
The generative AI-based safety management system refers to a system that converts SK chemicals' accumulated safety management documents, expertise, and case studies from operating its Ulsan plant into data and then allows AI to analyze the data to identify and present potential risk factors that may arise during operations.
Through this technology exchange, SK chemicals aims to expand AI-based technologies in the field of workplace safety. The company also expects to extend the application to areas where AI technology is required, such as environmental management and energy optimization, in the future.
Yoo Ho-seop, head of production infrastructure at SK chemicals, stated, "Enhancing Ulsan's safety management standards through the safety management system we established last year has led to this MOU. Together with RIST, we plan to further advance AI capabilities in safety and gradually expand their application across all areas of production to improve overall efficiency."
