SK chemicals is making a foray into the optic fiber parts business. The company said on March 30 that it intends to enter the optical fiber parts business in earnest, starting with its recent participation in the Optical Fiber Conference (OFC) held from March 24 to 27 in the United States. In May of last year SK chemicals established SK Opto-Electronics (SKOE), an optical fiber parts maker, in New Jersey, and recruited as its CEO Dr. Seo Seok-yun, formerly a member of staff at Lucent Technologies, in preparation for its advancement into the optical fiber parts business. ?SKOE will build up a cooperative relationship with major telecom equipment manufacturers such as Lucent and Alcatel starting from our participation in the OFC said Lee Young-jun, head of the information telecommunication materials business division. ?Making the most of our 30 years of accumulated technology in the chemical materials industry, we will become a leading player in this business.?
