(Untitle)*Korea’s Top Environment-Friendly and Energy-Saving Plant
*Green Plant with Low Carbon Emission and Resource Recycling
*Main Drive Forth in the Era of High Oil Prices
Due to record high oil prices and global warming, much more attention is paid to green growth. SK chemicals is laying the groundwork for green growth with green management powered by advanced technology.
The best example of SK chemicals’ green management is Pangyo R&D Center which is designed to open the new chapter of Korea’s life science. More than 60 environment-friendly technologies are incorporated to construct this building.

The roll screen is adopted to allow the daylight to pass through windows so that no energy is consumed to light the building during the day time. The heat pump and BIPV system are used to generate electricity while the use of fossil fuels is limited to the maximum level. To have enough heating effects, the energy-saving curtain wall and floor ventilation system are integrated.
These efforts are recognized by the GBCC (Green Building Certification Criteria), Korea’s evaluation standards for green buildings, and the Pangyo R&D center received 113 points out of the maximum point, 136, which is the highest point since the GBCC was introduced. It is expected that the Pangyo R&D center will receive the platinum grade from the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).
At the same time, SK chemicals' Ulsan Plant introduced the waste-wood-powered steam system first in Korea and stopped bunker C-oil-powered boilers to realize a green plant with low carbon emissions and resource recycling.
Kim Chang Geun, CEO of SK chemicals said, “SK chemicals are actively involved in the bio diesel, waste wood energy and renewable energy business. By strengthening the foundation for green growth, we will lead the future where climate change and high oil prices pose a great threat.
