● SK Chemical hosts 2016 Hot Blood Drive
- 140 employees participate despite the serious cold spell
- Help to solve 32% deficiency in winter blood supply
SK Chemical stepped forward in the extreme cold to show some neighborly love by donating blood.
On January 24 SK Chemical revealed that its Pangyo, Sungnam Ecolab located in Kyunggido hosted the 2016 Hot Blood Drive.
A company representative said, “The blood shortage is due to delayed surgeries (due to the MERS epidemic) being performed this winter as well as a decrease in blood donations during the winter season. We planned this event to do our part to help solve the shortage in blood reserves.“
Despite the serious winter cold spell, 140 SK Chemical Ecolab and subsidiary company employees eagerly stepped forward to participate in this event.
Bae Hyuk, head of SK’s Company Culture, said “I signed up to donate blood after hearing about the seriousness of the blood shortage on the news. I hope that our employees‘ interest and participation will do a small part to help resolve the national blood shortage.“
According the Korean Red Cross, as of January 22 the amount of blood stored in national Red Cross blood banks is 34% below the sufficient amount.
In July of last year SK Chemical carried out a company-wide blood drive in which it donated one traditional market Onnuri gift certificate for each employee that donated blood, contributing to the blood supply and revival of the local economy.
