● Our Dreams Grow Green Like a Green College Campus SK chemicals Holds "Hope Maker" College Campus Tour at SNU
- SK chemicals holds a "Visit College Campus" program with 25 Hope Maker students
- "We will keep providing support to Hope Maker students so that they can grow up to be society`s productive members"
A group of teens sponsored by SK chemicals spent a beautiful spring day on the Seoul National University campus.
SK chemicals, the corporate sponsor of "Hope Maker," a CSR program for underprivileged teens, said on May 27 that it held a 2016 College Campus Tour event coupled with college admissions consulting for 25 students from low-income neighborhoods in the city of Seongnam
The event held at the Seoul campus of Seoul National University was accompanied by 23 college students who are members of "Sunny," and SK Group-sponsored voluntary organization to provide teens with learning and future career counseling.
The youngsters who took part in the Hope Maker event, all middle school and high school students, asked questions to the college student volunteers and SK chemicals employees about what college major they should choose, how to link their interest with future careers, and what are the differences between college life and post-graduation social life.
After the question-and-answer session, the volunteers and the Hope Maker students played a variety of fun games including drawing museum displays, taking photos with the Kyujanggak Archives for Historical Records as a background, and looking for notes hidden in the garden in front of the central library.
To help the students` dreams come true, the volunteers and professional psychologists undertook a dream map drawing session as well. The middle school students who just started their adolescence could discover their future dreams by visualizing them through the session.
A middle school student who took part in the event said, "I wasn`t really into schoolwork until now but I suddenly have a strong urge to work very hard after seeing so many cool-looking Seoul National University students on the campus. It was such a good chance for me to think about what I want to do after I grow up."
Beginning with the college tour program in 2013 that visited Yonsei University, SK chemicals has provided the annual program in Korea University in 2014 and Konkuk University in 2015. Under the Hope Maker program, the company offers a variety of opportunities to elementary school students as well as middle school and high school students to visit college campuses and job experience programs to help Korea’s youth find successful career paths.
An SK chemicals official in charge of CSR said, "The latest trend in CSR is increasingly away from donations and simplistic volunteer activities and more and more toward something that can be done together between donors and receivers. We will continue to create similar participatory programs so that our Hope Maker children can grow up to be productive members of the society."
