The SK chemicals Ulsan Plant has implemented the sharing of happiness with its sister village through a "one company, one village" event.
The plant (factory manager Hwang Chun-hyeon) announced on Dec. 15 that it held the "2016 happiness sharing kimjang event" the previous day by inviting the women`s association members from its sister village of Geonam.
The kimjang event has been implemented every year since 2011. For the event, the plant makes kimchi by using materials and ingredients such as cabbage and white raddishes purchased from Geonam Village. Kimchi made through the event is delivered to low-income households in the local community. This project is designed to economically help the sister village and promote happiness among the needy neighbors.
Plant manager Hwang and about 50 other company executives and employees participated in this year`s Kimjang event. Along with the women`s association members from Geonam Village, they made Kimchi by using 1,000 heads of cabbage.
The kimchi made during the day was delivered to various organizations and families supported by SK chemicals. They include the Sanggae workshop for the disabled, Gwangmyeongwon, the Ulsan children`s foundation, and the Hope Maker-sponsored children`s households.
"I find it meaningful to help the needy neighbors with SK chemicals executives and employees by using the cabbage and white raddishes produced by myself and other village residents," said Kim Bu-jin, who heads the village women`s association. "The kimchi will be given to underprivileged people. So I made it with more sincerity than when I made kimchi for my family."
"We are happy to share our hearts with the less fortunate neighbors through kimchi, which is the typical winter food in Korea," said the plant manager Hwang. "We will continue to expand ties with our sister village, thereby realizing a management goal aimed at increasing happiness in the community."
In a related event, the plant donated "Love Rice" to Pyeongdong Village, with which it has sisterhood ties, on Nov. 29 for the elderly living alone and people who rely on government welfare support. In addition, the plant is contributing to the local community by providing a helping hand to farm villages during busy farming seasons and the operation of the "Hope Maker" program for children in low-income families.
