New employees at SK chemicals welcomed 2017 by volunteering in socially-conscious activities.
SK chemicals announced on January 31 that a volunteer team comprised entirely of new hires (H1 2017) participated in helping underprivileged seniors in the Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province region, where the head office is located, through the local Jung-tap Social Welfare Center.
About 30 volunteer employees sought out seniors with limited mobility and those who could not visit the welfare center due to personal circumstances and distributed packed lunches, foodstuffs, and necessities, as well as assisted in cleaning and environmental beautification.
Su-a Ji, a new employee in the IT Planning Department, expressed some of her concerns stating, "I was worried that the packed lunches we prepared might get cold by the time we delivered them." She added, "One grandmother expressed her gratitude and handed me some candy. It was really touching."
Corporate Culture Director Hyeok Bae stated, "Our `Kind Professional` creed represents SK chemicals` aim to be a leader in not only ability, but character as well. From the moment we become part of the SK chemicals family, we participate in social contribution activities to practice what we preach, to realize `Sharing Happiness` and `Neighborly Love.`"
Since 2004, SK chemicals has operated the Sharing Happiness Volunteer Group, in which all members participate in helping the local underprivileged.
Beginning in 2011, SK chemicals established sisterhood relationships with 14 local welfare centers throughout South Korea and all employees from the head office and 14 other branches and subsidiaries in the country have been involved in helping underprivileged seniors and children.
About 150 teams from all of SK chemicals participate in their exemplary Hope Maker program, which sponsors youths from low-income families until adulthood.
As of 2017, SK chemicals sponsors more than 160 youths nationwide, and a total of 25 Hope Maker-sponsored students are enrolled in college to realize their dreams.
In addition to the aforementioned programs, SK chemicals contributes to the development of local communities through various socially-conscious activities such as Green Classroom and other environmental beautification projects.
