● SK chemicals Presents Congratulatory Gifts to New Undergrad Students in Hope Maker Program
- 30 Hope Maker Students Enrolled in College Since 2012
- Plans to Foster Local Youths Through Various Sponsorship Activities
The incoming class of undergraduate students in SK chemicals` Hope Maker program recently received a special gift.
SK chemicals announced on the 14th that a new class of freshmen sponsored in the Hope Maker program were invited to the company`s headquarters as well as facilities in Andong and Osan and presented with gifts to celebrate their achievement.
Plant managers and directors of various facilities, including L House in Andong, presented five college entrants with laptop computers as admission gifts. SK chemicals L House plant manager Hong-kyun Lee, who helped produce the most new entrants this year, stated, "I am proud and thankful of this exceptional class of students with whom we share a long-standing relationship." He added, "I hope to see you all continue to commit yourselves to your studies, gain valuable experiences, and contribute to society as accomplished individuals."
A Hope Maker-sponsored student who enrolled at an unnamed university in Seoul for bio-fermentation fusion science said, "I`m grateful to SK chemicals for helping me with career counseling and providing various experiences since 2012. After graduation, I would like to work together with my mentors as a life science researcher at SK chemicals."
The Hope Maker program is SK chemicals` principal social responsibility activity founded in 2012. Every year, the program sponsors 160 youths from local low-income families near SK chemicals business sites throughout Korea until they reach adulthood. So far, the program has helped a total of 30 sponsored students realize their dream of higher education. SK chemicals is provides the latest laptop computers as admission gifts to all Hope Maker students who enroll in college.
The company also operates seasonal, themed social responsibility programs. The education-focused Campus Hope Tour is held each spring in line with the start of a new school year, and in the summer, the Grandma Visitation program is held to assist in the emotional development of urban youths by exposing them to rural culture. In the fall, rural volunteer activities are conducted to help farmers, and a year-end event is held in the winter with the families of youths in the aforementioned Hope Maker program.
SK chemicals plans to continue strengthening physical and human support for children and youths in the community.
