SK chemicals` eco-friendly classroom has exceeded 6,000 students.
SK chemicals (Cheol Kim, President) announced on the 14th of this month that their Happy Green Classroom, a children`s environmental education program provided for elementary school students in the vicinity of each SK business site in Korea, has exceeded 6,000 students in 30 schools and 200 classes throughout the Seongnam and Ulsan areas.
SK chemicals is the only company that continually conducts environmental education as a regular social contribution program among domestic companies.
Happy Green Classroom is a part of SK chemicals` social contribution activities devised to promote the importance of environmental awareness and protection. Employees of the company directly attend elementary schools in the vicinity of their respective job sites and work as environmentally-friendly educators for children.
Designed for elementary students in grades 3 through 5, the program educates children about environmental pollution, causes and effects of climate change, eco-science and technology, and the value and examples of environmental protection practices.
Since 2012, a total of 120 employees have worked as eco-friendly teachers after completing in-house training courses.
Kwang-seok Lee, communications manager of SK chemicals, stated, "Each year, about 1,000 children are provided easily-digestible education on the importance of the global environment and human health." He added, "We will continue to carry out eco-friendly programs as part of our corporate mission, doing our part in spreading awareness about environmental conservation to create a national consensus."
Not missing a beat with their active green classroom activities, SK chemicals has also been making visible progress with the company`s eco-friendly businesses.
Their flagship PETG business recently made waves by reaching number one in the Chinese copolyester market as the top eco-friendly plastic. In 2015, the company broke new ground after developing the world`s first environment-friendly quadrivalent influenza vaccine.
What`s more, SK chemicals regularly conducts local river and stream cleanup activities, promotes the benefits and purchasing of organic agricultural products, and contributes to environmentally-friendly food culture as part of their continuing social contribution activities.
