- Provided educational guidance for 140 teenagers since 2012 … 19 of them went to college.
SK chemicals is helping the youths it sponsors to find their dream this year, too.
SK chemicals said on May 22 that it took 41 of its sponsored students on ‘Campus Tour 2017,’ which included a tour of the Seoul campus of Kyunghee University. The company also provides these deserving students with mentoring.
The ‘Campus Hope Tour’ is a program for helping youths go to college that SK chemicals has been carrying out since 2012 to inspire teenagers to explore their career options and study purposefully.
So far, 140 students have toured prestigious universities in Seoul and received mentoring. This program is helping these youths make wise career choices. Through last year, 19 of the Hope Maker graduates have enrolled in college, with some entering the school they visited on SK chemicals’ campus tour.
One of last year’s participating students surnamed Kim became a college freshman this year and said, “Hearing about the details of college majors and campus life was very helpful.” He added, “I am really grateful that I could get a step closer to what used to be an ambiguous dream of becoming a bioscience researcher.”
“It was not until I visited the campus that I realized ‘what a university was like,’” said a junior in high school, who participated in the event this year. “I want to study hard and attend college like them.”
SK Collegiate Volunteer Corps (SUNNY), which participates in the event every year, has been greatly helpful to the ‘Campus Hope Tour.’ Each year, SK Collegiate Volunteer Corps (SUNNY), which consists of students enrolled in the schools included in the tour, show the youths around the campus and tell them about campus life, adding enthusiasm and friendliness to this event.
In particular, the ‘Mentoring Session,’ in which SUNNY provides information on how to study and potential majors, is the highlight of the ‘Campus Hope Tour’ and has received the best feedback from the participating students each year.
“We started the Campus Hope Tour to provide equal opportunities for youths with limited opportunities to experience and learn,” said Lee Gwang-Seok, head of the Communication Office of SK chemicals. “We will provide full support so that they will find their talent and aptitude, and become contributing members of society.”
In addition to the representative programs like the ‘Campus Hope Tour,’ we provide other routine support as well. SK chemicals operates the ‘Hope Maker Talent and Aptitude Program,’ which helps the youths it sponsors to acquire licenses in construction, computers and chemistry through local community centers, and continuously encourage them to develop useful skills. .
SK chemicals has provided economic support for more than 160 children and youths in the low income bracket, and carried out the ‘Hope Maker’ program to help them with their emotional stability through active exchanges with employees, e.g., volunteer activities for rural communities.
