On December 10 SK Chemical announced it has invited the award winning pianist Ms. Son Yul-eum to perform a year-end concert (“Son Yul-eum and Friends”) for employees and their families to be held at Grium Hall in Pangyo Sa-oak Ecolab.
Ms. Son was the first winner of the Grium Artist Award, an award given by SK Chemical through its Mesena Culture Program since 2011. She has established herself as a world class musician performing with world-class orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic, and Israel Philharmonic among others. The Grium Artist Award is awarded to talented young musicians in order to cultivate them into world-class performing artists and develop the spirit of humanities through classical music.
Ms. Son’s relationship with SK Chemical began in 2011 and has performed in SK Chemical’s Grium Hall year-end concert every year since 2012. “Son Yul-eum and Friends,” her 4th year-end concert, will feature Ms. Son collaborating with other artists including Duo Mino, Duo Yoo and Kim, Duo Amal, and Kim Yoon-ji.
The performance will feature Johannes Brahms’s Academic Festival Overture Op. 80 as well as a piano quartet, Maurice Ravel’s Bolero, among other musical gems.
The response to this year-end concert has been hot as every one of the 300-plus seats of Grium Hall was sold out soon after it was confirmed.
A representative from SK Chemical explained, saying, “Going on her fifth year of performing with us, Ms. Son Yul-eum is achieving near idol level fame amongst our employees. As our employees’ understanding and interest for classical music increases, so does Ms. Son’s popularity.”
SK Chemical plans to continue its efforts to expand and deepen classical music and humanities.
A company representative stated, “We are using the company performance hall Grium to host various humanity lectures and classical concerts and will continue to play a part to deepen and popularize classical music and humanities. Through this we hope that our employees are given the opportunity to reflect on themselves and experience growth in their lives.”
Since 2010 SK Chemical’s hosting of famous speakers and performers to give humanity lectures and classical concerts has resulted in a total of 127 lectures and 73 concerts. Humanity lectures have brought the likes of Haemin (monk), Hay-in Lee (nun), professor Hong-jun Yoo. Concerts have included cellist Yang Song-won, violinist Jung Gyung-hwa, and other internationally regarded musicians.
