SK chemicals announced on the 20th of this month that their Sharing Life Blood Drive campaign was held in conjunction with the Southern Seoul Blood Center at the SK chemicals headquarters located in Pangyo, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.
The goal of the blood drive was to mitigate difficulties faced by the medical community due to continuing blood stock shortages and decreased blood donations during the winter.
On the day of the drive, employees of SK chemicals and its subsidiaries joined together to embrace the spirit of sharing and donate blood starting early in the morning at 9 o`clock.
"We received news of a blood shortage from the Korean Red Cross that the number of blood donations dropped significantly this winter, especially over the recent cold wave," said Hyeok Bae, the Head of Corporate Culture at SK chemicals who planned the event. He added, "We simply wanted to do our part in adding to the much-needed blood supply by actively participating in our humble corporate mission for the promotion of human health."
According to the Korean Red Cross, the average blood reserve of Red Cross Blood Centers throughout South Korea is at a 4.2-day stock, down more than 16% from the appropriate reserve of a 5-day stock. Notably, reserves for Type-O blood is at a 2.8-day stock, or about 44% less than the appropriate reserve amount, meaning that supply is in urgent need of replenishment.
SK chemicals conducts various social contribution activities, one of which is holding annual blood drives in an effort to practice their corporate mission of promoting human health and protecting the earth`s environment.
